Who We Are

Founded in 1989 by Professor Nadia Magnenat Thalmann, MIRALab researchers are coming from various disciplines  as computer science,  engineering, design,  medical field, social robotics, multimedia and data science. Since its creation, MIRALab provides truly interdisciplinary research.

MIRALab has been participating in more than 70 EU  and national projects, and has produced more than 700 scientific papers as well as obtained  several Award for its films and videos. MIRALab research is mainly in 3D  virtual patient simulation, virtual coach, social robots, internet of things, and also cultural heritage  (https://www.youtube.com/user/MIRALab/videos). MIRALab organizes many conferences and workshops as Computer Graphics International (CGI) and Computer Animation and Social Agents (CASA). MIRALab is working under the Centre Universitaire d’informatique of the University of Geneva.

In 2016, MIRALab sarl was created as a spinoff of MIRALab laboratory at the University of Geneva. The SME provides a professional know how in Digital Humans modelling, in Metaverse as AR/VR/XR, and in social Robotics.  Our experienced team is specialized in modelling digital Humans or digital twins that can play a role medical applicationscultural heritagedigital fashion show and e-learning applications.  One of our famous humanoid robots is Nadine that can act as receptionist or companion as in elderly homes.

Prof. Nadia Magnenat Thalmann: a Pioneer in Virtual Humans, Social Robotics, and populated XR

Professor Nadia Magnenat Thalmann began her career in Canada at Université Laval and later at the Université de Montréal, pioneering 3D human simulation. Her multi-awarded-winning film, Rendez-vous in Montreal, was the first to feature virtual recreations of legendary Hollywood icons.
